Some of these images are parts of Richard Wheeler’s Artbook project, “Beauty in the Tar Pits”.  The first two were created with classical scientific illustration techniques, using pen & ink stippling.  The mandala forms were created using xerography & computer-based image processing.  Richard is fascinated by what he learns about species patterns when he builds images like these.  Are species as ephemeral as snowflakes?  What does this say about the warming times in which we live?  How do we all fit together?  How does life fill or fold into space?  —or, for that matter, into other living and unliving forms?   Why are spatial, temporal & species relationships important?  What other intriguing and important questions does all this raise?
